Abstract

Ammonium bicarbonate is reacted with secondary magnesium phosphate to form a substance suitable for use as a fertilizer. The amount of secondary magnesium phosphate must not be below 2% calculated as the weight of anhydrous compound on the weight of ammonium bicarbonate. The two constituents react to form a protective coating of magnesium ammonium phosphate on the ammonium bicarbonate, thereby inhibiting its normal spontaneous decomposition in the atmosphere. Examples are given.ALSO:A fertilizer is made by mixing ammonium bicarbonate with secondary magnesium phosphate. The amount of secondary magnesium phosphate must not be below 2% calculated as the weight of anhydrous compound on the weight of ammonium bicarbonate. The two constituents reset to form a protective coating of magnesium ammonium phosphate on the ammonium bicarbonate, thereby inhibiting its normal spontaneous decomposition. Examples are given.
