Abstract

837,357. Pneumatic springs. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. Jan. 24, 1958 [Feb. 1, 1957], No. 2407/58. Class 108(3) Air spring 15 has upper and lower beads 17, 16 which engage respectively flange 24 of reservoir 25 and flange 34 of tubular member 33. Bead 17 forms an air-tight seal with reservoir 25 and is a snap fit within flange 24. To ensure a good seal, bead 17 has a flexible lip 27, an annular groove 31, an annular rib 30 and a bulging portion 26. Lower bead 16 is a snap fit within flange 34. Metal cup 36 is vulcanized to the inner surfaces of the bead to strengthen it against axial and radial forces exerted by member 33 during operation. Specification 837,358 is referred to.
