Abstract

787,784. Tubeless tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Dec. 9, 1955 [Feb. 14, 1955], No. 35359/55. Class 144 (2). A tubeless tyre is sealed with a wheel rim 1, which may be circumferentially or transversely split, by a flexible rubber, channel-section annular band 5, the base 5a of which carries an inflation valve 9 and seats on the rim base, and the flexible wings 7 of which extend to lie closely against and seal with the inner surface of the tyre sidewalls 6. As shown, circumferential grooves 8 are provided in the tyre engaging surface of the wings 7. The band 5 may be of natural or synthetic rubber with the base 5a fabric reinforced, particularly in the region of the valve 9. The grooves 8 may be interrupted at regular intervals by transverse ribs.
