Abstract

555,754. Tyres. FIRESTONE TYRE & RUBBER CO., Ltd., BREEZE, S. J., TOLEDO WOODHEAD SPRINGS, Ltd., and WOODHEAD, F. June 30, 1942, No. 9030. [Class 144 (ii)] An inflatable or other fabric-reinforced tyre, with or without an inner tube is retained in driving engagement on a wheel-rim by resilient metal pieces 8 mounted on a collapsable or distortable member 7 and arranged to press the tyre beads 2 against the rim flanges. As shown V-shaped metal shoes 8, 9 are riveted (or welded) to an annular spring steel strip 7 which is provided with an apertured lug 11 arranged to receive a tyre tube inflating valve and to engage in the valve slot of the wheel rim in order to prevent circumferential slip of the tyre tube. In an alternative arrangement the flanges 9 of the shoes 8 may be directed radially inwardly of the band 7.
