827,736. Moulding gunstocks. SULLIVAN, G. C. April 19, 1956, No. 11972/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXI] A gunstock 10 having a rigid core 16 of expanded plastic material bonded to durable skin 11 may be made by three methods. (A) The cavity 15 of a mould 13, 14 is filled with the skin material, is drained and the material adhering to the cavity is cured to form the skin 11, a reactant foam mixture is then poured into the mould and allowed to rise, cure and bond to the skin to form the core 16. Alternatively, the skin may be produced in two halves by vacuum drawing sheets 19 into a mould 18, joining the two halves and filling with the core material. (B) The core may be moulded, placed in an oversize mould and the skin moulded in the space between the core and the mould. (C) The core may be moulded and the skin sprayed or dipped thereon. The gunstock 10 may have inserts 23, 24, 25.
