Class 47 A dry pipe valve for a fire extinguishing sprinkler system includes a valve element 6 pivotally mounted on one end of a bell crank lever 7 on the opposite end of which is mounted a counterweight 17, the arrangement being such that although the valve element remains on its seating against small variations in the differential between the air and water pressures on opposite sides of the valve element, the is adapted, when the water pressure exceeds the air pressure by a predetermined value, to lift the valve element thereby opening the valve and thereafter maintaining it in an open positon.
