820,968. Cradles for slinging vehicles. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT Ltd., and CLARK, F. M. Nov. 13, 1957 [Dec. 5, 1956], No. 37225/56. Class 78 (4). A platform for use in dropping wheeled vehicles by parachute from aircraft comprises side members 1, 2 joined by two structures each comprising members 4, 5 joined by transverse members 6, 7, 8, 9. Each pair of transverse members supports a pad 14 of crushable material such as resin-bonded paper honeycomb, the landing shock being transmitted by stout upper sheets 12 on which the vehicle wheels rest. A light under-sheet 13 may be provided, and the whole under-surface of the platform may be covered with plywood or sheet metal to resist digging into the ground. The joining structures are adjustable along the side members 1, 2 and the transverse members 6, 7, 8, 9 are adjustable along the members 4, 5. Guides 3 co-operate with guiding means in the aircraft. The spaces between and beyond the sheets 12 may be bridged for the purpose of driving or running the vehicle on to the platform. Specifications 782,640, [Group XXXIII], is referred to.
