Abstract

812,200. Door handles; locking bolt-like pins. CARTWRIGHT & CO. Ltd., R. Sept. 26, 1957 [Sept. 27, 1956], No. 29501/56. Classes 44 and 89(1) A door-handle 1, secured to a square-sectioned-spindle 2, is rotatably mounted within a rose 3 and retained therein by a resilient-washer 9 of sheet-metal, having inwardly-directed. jaws 12 which grip the surface of the spindle. The rose 3 is recessed to receive a coil-spring 7, the outerend of which is located between two arcuate-lugs 8 on the rose, and the inner-end of which is a close fit on the spindle 2, and the washer 9 is provided with a tongue 13 projecting betweeen a lug 14 on the rose and one of the lugs 8 to limit the angularmovement of the handle 1 when it is turned against the action of the spring 7, urging the tongue 13 against the lug 8. Alternatively, the tongue 13 and the lug 14 may be replaced by an arcuate-notch on the periphery of the washer 9 co-operating with a boss on the rose 3. In a modification, the washer 9 and the spring 7 are mounted on a boss which is integral with the handle 1 and projects through the rose.
