Abstract

211,344. Waite, G. T. Feb. 20, 1923. Petrol cans, detachably securing to running boards.-The beaded edge 5 of a spare petrol can is gripped between an inturned member on one side and a slidable clamping member 13 on the other side, this member being adapted to press the beaded edge downwards and inwards and to co-operate with a raised shoulder 7 on the base to grip the can firmly. The member 13 is held down by a fly nut 14 engaging a bolt 10 and is raised by a spring 15, the fitting being capable of tilting relatively to the base to facilitate engagement and disengagement of the can. The hasp of a padlock may be inserted through a hole 18 in the fly nut and a groove or flat or the ball 10. In a modification the fly nut is replaced by a small nut working in a recess in the member 13 and operated by a key. In a further modification, the nut is replaced by a bolt which enters a screwed member secured to the base.
