Abstract

810,925. Sparking-preventing in switches. BROWN BOVERIE & CIE A.G. Dec. 21, 1956 [Dec. 23, 1955], No. 39049/5S. Class 38 (5). A circuit-breaker with magnetic flow-out has a main moving contact 4 movable in a direction away from the operating mechanism to the open position, and a moving arcing contact 1 movable towards the operating mechanism. The contact 4 is so shaped that the electrodynamic forces tend to hold it closed to bridge the fixed contacts and is mounted on an insulating rod 17 coupled to the arcing contact arm 12 pivoted at 11. A bar 13 connects the arm 12 to the conductor 8 to complete the current path through the arcing contacts 1, 2. To open the switch the operating mechanism moves a rod 15 to the right causing a link 16 to move to the left moves the arm 12 about its pivot so that both the main and arcing contacts are opened. Since the operating mechanism is at the front of the breaker the main contacts are readily accessible from the back of the breaker without the removal of operating parts.
