812,626. Automatic circuit-breakers; contact members for switches. C.T. ELECTRICAL CONTROLS Ltd. Nov. 23, 1955 [Jan. 27, 1955], No. 19474/57. Divided out of 812,622. Class 38 (5). A circuit-breaker has a fixed contact 43, a moving contact 34 carried on a slidably mounted member 33 which has a limited freedom of tilting movement, opening means e.g. a spring 36 acting on a part of the member 33 displaced from the contact 34, and a closing member 92 acting on the member 33 at a point 100 intermediate the contact 34 and the said part. When the contacts are moved from the open position, Fig. 8, to the closed position, Fig. 10, the member 33 is tilted about the point 100 and is slid along until the contacts initially engage as indicated in Fig. 9. As the closing movement continues the member 33 is tilted back in the reverse direction so that the contacts 34, 43 are fully engaged with a wiping action, Fig. 10. The invention is described in its application to the circuit-breaker of Specification 812,622, the member 33 carrying two moving contacts and being slidable on a rod which extends through the spring 36.
