Abstract
755,377. Air-blast switches. I. T. E. CIRCUIT BREAKER CO. July 26, 1954 [Aug 31. 19531. No. 21766/54. Class 38(5) A circuit-breaker is provided with an airpuffer comprising a casing 25 in which a vane 28 is pivotally mounted, the edges of the vane being contiguous to the walls of the casing at all positions of the.vane. The circuit-breaker comprises fixed and moving contacts 13, 16, the latter being mounted on a bridge 14 pivoted at 15 to a lower terminal 12. Casing 25 has parallel V-shaped side walls 17 with arcuate tops which are joined by a flat connecting member 19 and an arcuate connecting member 20, the latter being provided with a spout 32, which, in the closed position of the circuit-breaker, is immediately below contacts 13, 16. The casing has an extension 21 pivoted at 26 to bridge 14. One end of vane 28 is pivoted at 29 to the lower terminal 12 and the vane is also pivoted at an intermediate point 30 to the casing 25. A gasket 31 is provided between the vane and the casing. When the circuit-breaker opens, the bridge 14, casing 25 and vane 28 all move to the left about pivots 15. 26 and 30 respectively, the vane moving faster than the casing owing to the arrangement of these pivots and the stationary pivot 29. This forces air from the casing through spout 32 to produce a stream directed on the arc drawn between the contacts 13, 16, and causing the arc to be transferred to an arc horn and into an arc-chute.
