Abstract

844,367. Switch contacts; arc rupturing in switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 9, 1956 [Nov. 15, 1955], No. 32626/55. Class 38 (5). An air-break circuit-breaker has co-operating contacts comprising a moving contact and a resiliently mounted fixed contact capable of very limited movement and having substantially greater inertia than the moving contact, the support for the fixed contact having substantially greater resilience than the support of the moving contact. As shown a pair of fixed contacts are used in combination with the bridging contact device described in Specification 844,365, and each comprises a contact proper 10 and arcing horn 12 pivoted at 13 and biased by a spring 15 towards the movable contact 11. A casing part 16 supports one end of the spring 15 and forms a stop for a projection 17 on the fixed contact. The respective halves of the Figure show the open and closed positions of the parts.
