Abstract

1,040,143. Automatic circuit breakers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. June 20, 1963 [July 17, 1962; July 18, 1962], No. 24523/63. Heading H2B. In an automatic circuit-breaker of the kind having a toggle linkage 12, 13 interconnecting a pivotally mounted contact arm 7 and a releasably latched support arm 17, one of the toggle links 13 is provided with an extension arm 13<SP>1</SP> which, in the closed and tripped conditions of the breaker, engages a stationary stop 24 to limit movement of the toggle linkage. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown), the extension arm 13A engages with the stationary pivot 8 of the contact arm 7. In the tripped condition shown the arm 13<SP>1</SP> and stop 24 co-operate to prevent the toggle linkage straightening and thus the contact 7 rebounding into the closed position. In the closed position (Fig. 2, not shown), after the toggle linkage has been moved overcentre by a tension spring 22 and handle 20, they prevent collapse of the toggle and thus opening of the contacts.
