810,482. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. LINEN INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Sept. 5, 1956 [Sept. 7, 1955], No. 25593/55. Class 135. [Also in Groups IX and XIX] A servomotor system for controlling the tension of a thread 1 as it is passed to or delivered from a textile machine, comprises two stationary bars 2, 2 over which the thread 1 passes, and a light feeler arm 3 between the bars 2, 2, tending to hold the thread 1 against the bars, the feeler arm 3 being secured to an arm 4 freely pivoted at one end 5 and carrying a vane 6 at the other end, the vane 6 being movable between two opposed orifices 7, 8, one of which (7) is connected to a supply of compressed air and the other (8) to a bellows 9 and to a pressure responsive control, measuring or recording device 12; the arm 4 being attached to the bellows 9. If the tension in the thread 1 increases, the feeler arm 3 is deflected such that it causes the vane 6 to move away from a position between the opposed nozzles 7 and 8 and air from the nozzle 7 then passes into the nozzle 8 to create a pressure in the bellows 9. The resulting displacement of the bellows 9 tends to counteract the force exerted by the thread 1 on the feeler arm 3 and when a state of equilibrium has been reached the resulting pressure is indicated on a pressure gauge 12. The pressure in the bellows 9 or, in the gauge 12, is used to operate any known type of pneumatic control device to vary the operation of any part of the textile machine in accordance with the tension in the thread. In a modified construction a light spring is inserted between the arm 3 and the bellows 9, and an additional spring acts on the bellows 9 to restrict its movement.
