809,026. Fabric made of adhesively bonded threads. KARASS, T. J. May 24, 1955 [May 26, 1954], No. 14976/55. Class 140. Flexible weftless tape comprises a single ply of juxtaposed parallel threads of fibrous textile material bonded together by a water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol such that a 4 per cent aqueous solution has a viscosity of 25 to 65 centipoises at a temperature between 140‹ and 180‹ F. and applied from a solution having a concentration of from 10 to 20 per cent by weight. The polyvinyl alcohol adhesive may contain a plasticizer, a fungicide or a wetting- agent. Specified fibrous materials are glass, asbestos, linen and synthetic linear polymers. As shown, in Figs. 3 and 4, a supply creel 10 comprises bobbins 12 whence fibrous strands 4 are led through comb 16 and through adhesive containing tank 14, passing over guiding elements 18 and 24, which are each provided with two arcuate concave recesses, whereby the strands are formed and compacted into two separate tapes which then pass between pressure rolls 28, 30 and 32. The tapes are thence fed over guiding plate 36 to drying drum 40 and tapering driven drum 100 about whose surfaces they are wound in a continuous spiral and are withdrawn at the opposite end of the drums, passing then over guiding plate 50 and between finishing roll 52, and 54 and being finally wound on bobbins 60 and 62. The web may be passed through corrugating rollers or may be printed.
