Abstract

915,987. Tapes composed of adhesively bonded cords. PAYNE & SONS Ltd., P. P. Oct. 7, 1959 [Oct. 17, 1958], No. 33223/58. Class 140. A method for the manufacture of banding, strapping or the like tying material comprises the step of arranging a plurality of strands or strings of paper substantially parallel to each other and adhesively uniting the strands or strings together in parallel sideby-side relationship to form a flat strip, the paper strands or strings extending lengthwise of the strip. As shown, strands of twisted paper yarn 4 are drawn from packages 5, through apertured plate 6, around guide element 7, through condenser reed 8 whereby the strands are collected together and laid substantially parallel to each other in side-byside relation. The strands are then led through adhesive bath 9, between superposed rollers 10, 11, 12, thence around drying cylinders 14, 15, 16 and 17, then through a series of calender rolls 18 and the formed tape is finally wound up on roll 19. A suitable adhesive is polyvinyl alcohol.
