Abstract

1,186,233. Twist-free yarns; sizing. NETHERLANDS APPLIED SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH FOR INDUSTRY, TRADE & COMMERCE. 5 July, 1967 [7 July, 1966], No. 30930/67. Headings DID, D1F and D1W. A method of producing a twist-free yarn from a roving (or sliver) of staple fibre material comprises wetting the roving, drafting it to form a thinner sliver, false-twisting the sliver and winding the sliver into a crosswound package, the package being sized to form a package which can be unwound. The drafting is preferably carried out on a device comprising two pairs of rollers one roller of each pair being serrated and the other of each pair being of rubber. In a preferred embodiment, the wet sliver is washed with a starchgrain suspension, then passed through the drafting device to a pneumatic false-twist device and then wound into a package, the package is then steamed to gelatinize the starchgrains, and the package is then dried. Preferably the starch-grain suspension is also fed to the delivery rollers of the drafting device, excess starch-grain suspension being collected and recirculated to the supply.
