808,017. Chain couplings. EICKHOFF MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI GEB. Feb. 21, 1957 [March 17, 1956, Sept. 25, 1956], No. 5887/57. Class 24 A chain closure link for link chains made from metal of circular section comprises a C-shaped stirrup with ends extending transversely of the direction of the chain, said ends being widened in the longitudinal direction of the chain and reduced in thickness in the transverse direction parallel to the plane of the adjoining chain links, and a closure member having either two openings or one opening through which said stirrup ends project. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, the ends 2 of the stirrup 1 are widened in the longitudinal direction and reduced reduced in the transverse direction as shown and pass through openings 6 and 7 in a closure plate 5 which is secured in position by pins 8 passing through bores in tapered protruding portions of the ends 2. The over-all width of the closure link does not exceed the width of a chain link 4. In an alternative form, Figs. 3 and 5, the closure member is a loop 18 bent from flat steel and closed at 20 by welding and secured in position by one or two pins 23 passing through the member 18 and the arms 11 and 12 of the stirrup 13. The overall width and thickness of the closure link do not exceed that of a chain link 15 or 16.
