Abstract

337,085. Taylor, H. G. Aug. 6, 1929. Oval-link chains.-The parts of a two-part link or shackle are formed with interlocking faces comprising a series of steps with overhanging edges, each step being set back from the next. The Figure shows a link or shackle with one end A and the stud B formed in one piece and the other C separate. The two pieces are formed with steps a and overhanging ledges b interlocking as shown. To prevent the ends of the piece C from spreading they are formed with rabbets in which engage ribs d on the parts A. The interlocking surfaces may be of cylindrical form struck from the axis of the link so that the parts are engaged by rotation. For a shackle the two portions are secured by a pin e, but in a link they may be spot welded or similarly secured. Other ways of dividing the link are described.
