Abstract
722,924. Steering vehicles. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. April 16, 1952 [April 16, 1951], No. 9613/52. Class 79(5). In a motor vehicle having a steering gear oscillation damper of the kind in which a hydraulic piston and cylinder is pivotally connected between the steering linkage and a fixed part of the vehicle, the piston and cylinder offering slight resistance to slow movements of the steering gear and high resistance to rapid movements thereof, the piston rod or the cylinder is connected directly to the intermediate portion of a three-part track rod. As shown the steering column controls wheels 8 through the steering gear 2, whose drop arm 3 is connected to the wheels through the three-part track rod, the parts 4, 6 being connected to an arm 7 pivoted to the vehicle frame. The track rod part 4 is connected by a linkage 12 to the hydraulic piston 11 having a throttling bore and being arranged within the cylinder 10. The cylinder 10 carries a link 13 which is pivoted at 14 to the vehicle frame. Alternatively the cylinder 10 may be connected to the part 4 and the piston 11 to the frame.
