Class 120(2) Apparatus for the twisting and plying of yarns comprises a twisting spindle adapted to rotate a yarn package support, means for feeding a plurality of spaced yarns to said support, independent tension means for imparting equal and uniform tensions to the yarns, a common guide at which the yarns converge between the feeding means and the support and a plurality of guides symmetrically disposed with reference to the common guide between said common guide and the feeding means, each adapted to guide a yarn to the common guide. In the arangement shown yarns 12 from the supply packages 13 pass through guides 19 and individual tensioners 18 and then to further guides 22 mounted in a frame 23, and thence to the feed rolls 10 and 11. The yarns are then brought together through a guide 28, the position of which is adjustable, and which is of sufficient diameter to accommodate the yarns passing through it without causing yarns to contact each other. From the guide. 28 the yarns diverge and pass through selected guides 39 in a plate 29 the guides being selected such that they are equal distances from the centre of the plate and are disposed symmetrically about the centre. The yarns then converge again into a lower guide 31 when they are brought together to form a composite yarn and are twisted together as they pass on to the rotating bobbin 17. The guide 31 is adjustably vertically so that it can be arranged at the twisting point of the yarn. A central guide eye is provided in plate 29 to facilitate the twisting of a single yarn.
