781,156. Sewing machines. PHOENIX NAHMASCHINEN AKT.-GES. BAER & REMPEL. Jan. 18. 1956 [Jan. 18, 1955], No. 1712/56. Class 112 Feeding work: In a zig-zag sewing machine with a hook rotating in' plane transverse to the direction of work-feed, and a feed shaft 14 and; a hook drive shaft 1 situated on the side of the needle bar remote from the operator, the shaft 14 is oscillated from the shaft 1 by an eccentric 21 coupled by a substantially vertical rod 22 to a substantially horizontal togglelever arrangement 23, 29, 30 arranged close to the transversely disposed hook shaft; the hook shaft is driven from the shaft 1 by worm and worm-wheel gearing. The toggle-link 23 is coupled to a rock arm 14a on the shaft 14 and the links 29, 30 are coupled to a pin 32 carried by arms 25, 31 on shafts 28 and 31b. The shaft 28 carries an arm 27 connected by a link 26 to a stitch-adjustment lever whereby the pin 32 may be moved into any one of three positions to give forward feed, zero feed, or reverse feed respectively. A further eccentric on the shaft 1 effects the vertical movement of the feed bar 10. The arrangement described provides additional space under the base plate for fitting a driving motor and a transformer.
