Abstract

759,592. Motor vehicles. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Nov. 14, 1952 [Nov. 19, 1951], No. 28792/52. Classes 79 (2), 79 (3) and 79 (4). A motor vehicle comprises a detachable end frame part 1, 2 which projects at the front or rear beyond the main, middle portion 3 of the vehicle and forms with parts of the driving mechanism a removable unit independent of the external surface of the vehicle, the end frame part 1, 2 being of V-shape in plan view, extending into or underneath the middle portion 3 of the vehicle with its narrower end and being fixedly connected thereto. As shown in Fig. 2, the end frame parts 1, 2 are connected to the middle part 3 by bolts 16. The engine unit 5 mounted on the part 1 drives a differential gear 7 mounted on the part 2 by means of a divided shaft 6, the division being arranged in about the middle of the vehicle and the rear part of the shaft 6 being supported by a bearing 8 carried by the end part 2. The end part 2 also carries a fuel tank 14 and exhaust silencer 15 and the front part 1 also carries a bumper bar 9. The connection of the end parts can be effected in various ways; the parts 1, 2 are connected to the part 3 by vertical bolts, Fig. 3 (not shown), the parts 1, 2 extend into a tunnel beneath the part 3 and connected thereto by vertical and horizontal bolts, Fig. 4 (not shown), or the parts 1, 2 are connected together by horizontal bolts 16, Fig. 5, and are also connected to the part 3.
