Abstract
713,578. Motor-vehicle frames; spare-wheel holders. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. April 10, 1952 [April 10, 1951], No. 9257/52. Classes 79(3), 79(4) and 136(1) In a heavy motor vehicle chassis the frame comprises two relatively close longitudinal girders, which are rectilinear apart from upward bends where a driven axle extends beneath, and transverse girders intersecting the longitudinal girders and extending across substantially the whole wheel track through opening in the longitudinal girders, the openings being shaped to correspond to the profiles of the transverse girders and the transverse and longitudinal girders being welded together at the openings. As shown applied to an omnibus chassis the frame comprises the longitudinal members 10, 11, the member 11 having an eye portion 51 to accommodate a spare wheel 49 and the members 10, 11 being upwardly bent in the region of the back . axle, and the transverse members 12 ... 21, 37, 38. The transverse members 12 ... 16, 19, 37, 38 are of hat-shaped cross-section and pass through the complementary openings in the members 10, 11 and are welded.thereto. The transverse members 19, 20 are braced by longitudinal members 32, 33 and carry an engine and change speed gear which drives through bevel gearing 26 and shafting 27 a differential gear 28 mounted on a dead axle 29 carrying wheels 30 and supporting the frame by springs 35, 36, the gear 28 driving the wheels through shafts 31.
