Abstract

755,251. Locks. MARSTON & CO., Ltd., A., BRYAN, S. P., and WILLIAMS, H. M. Feb. 23, 1955 [Feb. 23, 1954], No. 5258/54. Class 44. In a cylinder mortice latch, the latch bolt is operated by one or more angularly movable followers of such form as to allow for the passage therethrough of screws passing through the latch casing between the cylinder on one side of the door and a fixing plate on the other side. As shown, a spring-loaded latch bolt 14 Fig. 3, is provided with-lugs 18 on 'both sides of parallel arms which are engaged by projections 19 on either of two identical followers 20 and rotatably mounted in the latch casing. The followers are rotated by a bar or tongue on a key-operated cylinder or a handle. The cylinder is fixed by screws passing through a fixing plate for the inner side of the door and through the latch casing into tapped holes in a lug on the inner end of the cylinder, an arcuate slot 29 being formed in each follower to permit full angular movement of the followers to retract the bolt. Preferably the latch bolt is reversible, holes 28 in the latch casing and slots 29 in the followers being formed symmetrically of the axis of the followers for this purpose. The nose of the bolt engages a striking plate, Fig. 6, having a lug 32 to prevent forcing of the bolt by a tool inserted through the door frame.
