Abstract

578,397. Locks and latches. WARING, D. A. W., PARRATT, A. R., STOKES, Ltd., A., and FARNHAM ENGINEERING WORKS, Ltd. June 12, 1944, No. 11230. [Class 44] A latch operable from one side by a lock of the type known under the Registered Trade Mark of "Yale" and from the other by a knob comprises a sliding bolt 12, Figs. 4 and 5, enclosed in a barrel 1, and a pair of coaxial bolt-operating levers 15, 16 for independent action by the key or the knob. The levers 15, 16 are double-armed and form part of coaxial sleeves mounted in dished openings 20, 21 in the casing 1. The sleeves are mutually supported by a bearing sleeve 24. The lever 15 has a square aperture for a handle and the lever 16 a slot engaged by the connecting bar of the key operated lock. The lock comprises a tumbler barrel 8, Fig. 2, extending on either side of the casing 1 and connected by screws 27 to a bridge plate 28 on the other side of the door or the lock may be secured directly on the casing 1. The bolt 12 is a U-shaped strip member the arms of which are attached to the bolt head 4. The casing 1 is formed of two sheet metal pressings of semi-cylindrical shape one of which carries the four end plates 3. The latch may be held in unlatched position by a transverse locking plate 30, Fig. 4, adapted to engage a slot 31 in the bolt head.
