Abstract
749,305. Snap-action switches; the switches. YOUNG, S. G. June 24, [March 24, 1952], No. 7580/52. Class 3 In a switch having movable contacts 10, 11 carried by a snapper 1 similar to that of Specification 594,114 [Group XIX] and cooperating with normally fixed contacts 12, 13, contact 13 is carried by a bimetal strip 14 and is arranged to be moved on temperature increase so as to open the circuit. In one form, the bimetal strip moves the contact 13 towards the snapper so as to throw the snapper over-centre and open the contacts, in the event of an overload. The strip may be heated by a coil 15 or by the current through it. Alternatively, the strip may bend away from the snapper when heated, a stop 17 preventing the snapper from following and allowing the contacts to open. In these arrangements, the snapper is normally dolly-operated, but in Fig. 3 a push-pull member 30 carries a snapper 18 having contacts at each end each co-operating with one or a pair of fixed contacts, one or both of which has a bimetal mounting.
