748,081. Mine roof support bars. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE AKT.- GES., [formerly GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE OBERHAUSEN AKT.-GES.]. Nov. 12, 1952 [Nov. 12, 1951], No. 28577/52. Class 20(2). Mine roof support bars 2, 3 are pivotally connected end-to-end by a hinge pin 4 and one 3 supported as'a cantilever from the other 2,by wedge 1 guided on one bar 3 so as to be slidable lengthwise of the bars from an inoperative position to a position in which one edge of the wedge bears against the hinge pin 4 and the opposite edge against abutments 5, 6 on the bars 2, 3. The abutments 5, 6 may be camshaped or provided with bearing points 51, 6<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2 (not shown), so that the wedge has a three-point bearing on the pin 4 and bars 2, 3. A sliding catch may be provided on one bar and adapted to prevent relative lateral displacement of the bars on the hinge pin. In another embodiment, Figs. 3, 5 (not shown), a double wedge 15, 16 with an integral bridge member 17 embraces one bar 2 and engages abutments 11 on the sides of the bar 3.
