Abstract
The invention comprises disazo dyestuffs which in the form of their free acids are of formula:- <FORM:0742731/IV(c)/1> where of X and Y one is SO3H and the other H and R is H or a benzoyl group which may be substituted in the phenyl radicle by methyl, trifluoromethyl, halogen or alkoxy group. They are made by treating the corresponding disazo compound:- <FORM:0742731/IV(c)/2> where Alk is Me or Et with a copper yielding agent so that the O-Alk link is broken. Coppering may be effected with hot ammoniacal solutions of copper salts optionally in the presence of an organic base. The unmetallized dyestuffs may be made by coupling tetrazotised dianisidine or 3, 31-diethoxy-4, 41-diaminodiphenyl with the appropriate naphthol sulphonic acids. The dyestuffs yield reddish-blue shades on artificial silk, cotton and regenerated cellulose fibres. Examples illustrate copper-containing dyestuffs derived from tetrazotized dianisidine 2-naphthol-3, 6-disulphonic acid and one of the following acids 2-amino- and benzoylamino-5-naphthol-1, 7 and 3, 7 - disulphonic acids, and 2 - (41-methyl-, 31-trifluoromethyl-, 21-and 41-chloro- and methoxy- and 21 51-dichlorbenzoylamino)-5-naphthol-3, 7-disulphoric acid.
