Abstract
506,395. Dyes. JOHNSON, G. W.(I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.) Nov. 25, 1937, No. 32548. [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] Dis- and polyazo dyes are made in substance or on the fibre by coupling diazo compounds of aromatic amines which may contain azo groups with o-hydroxyarylcarboxylic arylides containing in the arylide residue at least one SO3H group and of the general formula wherein Ar=arylene radicles containing a least two condensed nuclei and B1, B2 and B3 =phenylene radicles. The arylides have affinity for animal and vegetable fibres and may be used for producing level shades on mixed materials especially of wool and regen-. erated cellulose. In an example a mixed fabric of wool and staple fibre (viscose silk).is treated with the bisarylide from 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid and 1-amino-3-sulpho-4-(4<11>-amino- 2<11>- sulphophenyl - 4<1>-aminophenyl) - aminobenzene and developed with diazotized 4-amino-3- or 4<1>-methoxydiphenylamine (navy blue) or 4-benzoylamino-2 : 5-diethoxyaniline (blue) or 4-chlor-2-aminodiphenylether (red). The corresponding arylide from 3-hydroxydiphenyleneoxide-2-carboxylic acid may be similarly used; .other acids specified are 6-methoxy-2-naphthol- 3-carboxylic acid, 2 - oxyanthracene-3-car - boxylic acid, 2-oxycarbazole-3-carboxylic acid, 7 : 8-benzocarbazole-Bz.3-hydroxy-2-carboxylic acid. Specification 260,339, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to. The arylides may be made by reacting the acid (2 mols.) or its chloride, o-acyloxychlorides or esters with an N : N<1>-di-(aminophenyl) diaminobenzene sulphonic acid (1 mol.). The diamines may be prepared by condensing phenylene diamines with p- or o-nitrochlorobenzene sulphonic acids which may be substituted by alkyl, alkoxy or halogen, and reducing. According to the Provisional Specification the coupling components are bis-o-hydroxyarylcarboxylic acid diarylides which contain sulphonic groups. and contain at least one diphonylamine radical in the arylide residue.
