Abstract
The invention comprises dyestuffs of formula:-<FORM:0740570/IV(c)/1> where R is H, a benzoyl group the phenyl radicle of which may be substituted by methyl, halogen or alkoxy groups, or an acyl group of not more than 4 carbon atoms which may be made by the dealkylating coppering of the dyestuffs obtainable by coupling tetrazotized 3.31-dimethoxy- or -diethoxy-4.41-diaminodiphenyl with the appropriate naphthalene sulphonic acids. Coppering may be effected with ammoniacal solutions of a copper salt, e.g., the sulphate, optionally in the presence of an organic base such as pyridine. Specified coupling components are: 1-acetyl-, -n-butyryl-, benzoyl-, -o-chlorobenzoyl-, -2, 4-and -2, 5-dichlorobenzoyl- and -p-methyland -methoxybenzoyl-amino-8-naphthol-4,6-disulphonic acids. The dyestuffs yield blue dyeings in cellulosic fibres. Examples are provided of the use of certain of the above specified reagents in the preparation of dyestuffs an additional component used being 1-amino-8-naphthol-4, 6-disulphonic acid.
