Class 132(3) A ramp which may be raised for uncoupling couplings of model railway vehicles has transverse members 5 which rest on arms 10 each of which is preferably formed integrally with a stamping 9a, 9b located by a stud 16 at the end of an electromagnet 8. Portions 9a of the stampings form armatures and, when the latter are attracted by the electromagnet, pro jectirg portions 11 on the arms 10 engage and raise the ramp to its operative position. When the magnet is de-energized the ramp, arms 10 and armatures 9a return to their unoperated positions by gravity but light springs may be provided to aid this. To increase the magnetic flux, a member 15, which may be of soft iron, is mounted beneath the electromagnet with its extremities close to the fulcrum points of the armatures. The member 15 may alternatively be a permanent anisotropic type of magnet which polarises the armatures and makes the mechanism operative only with current of the current polarity.
