Abstract
515,529. Electromagnetic relays. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., RAYNER, T. R., and MARING, A. O. May 31, 1938, No. 16308. [Class 38 (v)] The armature 12, 22, of a polarized relay is moved to one position by current flowing through the operating coil 17 in one direction and is moved to its other position by current through the coil 17 in the other direction, and is retained in either position by the magnetic action of a permanent magnet 13. The axis of the magnet 13 is parallel to the core 30 of the electromagnet 17 and yokes 10, 14 are arranged as shown. The armature is pivoted at its centre and has one arm 12 adapted to be attracted to a pole 25 and another arm 22 adapted to be attracted to the core 30 of the electromagnet. When current is passed through the magnet 17 to magnetize it in the same direction as the magnet 13, the pull on the arm 12 will be greater than on the arm 22 and the armature will move and operate the springset 11. After operation, current in the reverse direction will reduce the flux through 12 and increase the flux through 22 causing a restoration of the armature to its normal position.
