Abstract
996,604. Preparing fibres for spinning. MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER A.G. Oct. 17, 1961 [Oct. 18, 1960; Sept. 16, 1961], No. 37166/61. Heading D1N. A fibre-opening and cleaning machine has a housing with a central feed aperture and a rotor in the housing carrying card clothing in operative association with card clothing fixed to the inside of the housing. In one form, Fig. 1, having a rotor 7 mounted on a horizontal axis for adjustment relative to a ring 4 fixed to a two-part housing, a fibre inlet 2 leads to the area between the card clothed surfaces 17 of the ring 4 and rotor 7 from which fibres may pass to an annular duct into which an outlet pipe opens tangentially. The rotor 7 carries blades 18 to faciliate movement of fibres between the card surfaces which may themselves be perforated for the flow of air. The clothing on the surfaces 17 may be graded radially from coarse to fine and may be sawtooth wire and/or flexible card clothing. In a form employing a rotor 24, Fig. 4, on a vertical axis, a fibre feed pipe 36 leads to card clothed rings 25, 26 within an annulus of grid bars 29. A fan wheel 38 creates an air flow in conjunction with a suction source connected to the machine by a pipe 31 and hood 30.
