702,795. Cutting chaff &c. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP MAATSCHAPPIJ TOT EXPLOITEREN VAN OCTROOIEN EN LICENTIES MATEPA. Oct. 15, 1951 [Oct. 16, 1950], No. 23916/51. Class 5 (1). [Also in Group II] A chaff &c. cutter adapted to function as a centrifugal blower for the purpose of conveying the comminuted material comprises an outer casing 3 having an inlet 2 and an outlet 8, and a drum 5 carrying cutter elements 4 having both long and short teeth the cutting edges of which are parallel to the drum axis, the inner wall of the casing presenting to the cutter elements during passage of the latter between the inlet and outlet initially a stationary cutter bar 13 with a straight cutting edge parallel to the drum axis for co-operation with the cutting edges of the long teeth, and subsequently a stationary cutter bar 14 of comb-like formation having cutting edges parallel to the drum axis for co-operation with the cutting edges of both the long and the short teeth. The casing between the inlet and cutter bar 13 forms a flap 16 adapted to pivot at 17 outwardly in opposition to an adjustable spring 18 to enable hard objects to escape from the casing without damage to the cutting edges. The flap is guided between side walls 19 which are also adapted to pivot outwardly when the flap makes contact with a stop 21 carried thereon. The inlet is in the form of a hopper. The outlet may be connected either to an inclined duct 9 or to a vertical duct 10. The cutter is mounted on a wheeled carriage 1.
