Abstract

841,523. Spring forks for motor cycles. ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO. Ltd. Oct. 10, 1956 [Oct. 27, 1955], No. 30714/55. Class 136(3). A spring fork for motor cycles or other vehicles includes at least one complete spring suspension and telescopic shock absorber unit which is detachable by disconnecting upper and lower pivotal connections 22, 15b. One end of an arm 15 is pivotally mounted at 15a in the lower hollow part 14 of the front fork member and the other end has a bearing 15c for one end of the motor cycle front wheel axle. The lower pivotal connection 15b of the shock absorber unit is to the arm 15 at a point mid-way between the connections 15a, 15c. The shock absorber includes a hydraulic damper comprising a piston mounted on a piston rod 17, slidable within a cylinder 16, the cylinder having a bearing for the pivotal connection 15b and the piston rod 17 having a bearing 18 for the other pivotal connection 22. The spring suspension is in the form of a spring 20 abutting at one of its ends on the piston rod bearing 18 and at its other end on a shoulder 16a of the cylinder. The cylinder casing 16 is extended from the shoulder 16a to form a cylindrical guide 16b for the piston rod 17. A resilient bumper stop 21 is arranged between the piston rod bearing 18 and the guide 16b..
