Abstract

713,080. Carding engines. ZELLWEGER, P. U. May 23, 1951 [May 27, 1950], No. 12106/51. Class 120(1) Carding apparatus for disentangling flax and tow comprises a central swift roller 1, a licker-in roller or rollers 13, 14, and a plurality of pairs of workers and stripper rollers 2, 4, 6, 8 and 3, 5, 7, 9 respectively, the ratio of the peripheral speed of the swift to that of any one of the workers not exceeding 10:1. As shown, material is supplied to the central roller 1 by a feed band 10, feed rollers 11, 12, and two lickerin rollers 13, 14. Bearer rollers 16 are arranged to co-operate with either the stripper or (as shown) the worker rollers. The distances of the workers and strippers from roller 1 and from each other is adjustable. The workers have a diameter of at least 30 cms. and their peripheral speeds decrease in the direction of movement of the fibres. The ratio of the peripheral speeds of roller 1 to that of any of the stripper rollers or of licker-in 14 is at most 5:1. and the ratio between the pheripheral speed of licker-in 13 and that of feed rollers 11, 12 is at most 10:1. All the rollers, except doffer 15, have a sawtoothed cover.
