Abstract

793,680. Preparing fibres for spinning. CARDING SPECIALISTS (CANADA), Ltd. July 31, 1956, No. 23562/55. Class 120(1) A web of fibres c, Fig. 1, is removed from a pair of oppositely rotated pressure rollers a, b by means comprising a card clother doffer roller d adapted to be rotated in the same direction as one pressure roller b and remove fibres from that roller, and an additional roller m arranged to co-operate with both the doffer roller d and the other pressure roller a so as to transfer from roller a to roller d any films carried round on roller a. Roller m may be smooth, grooved or card-clothed it may be rotated by frictional contact with the doffer roller or by a belt drive or gearing from the machine drive; it may be urged resiliently into contact with rollers a, d and may be adjustable relative to roller d. As shown, web c is removed from roller d by a stripper roller e whence it is stripped by a fly comb f on to a lattice. In an alternative arrangement, stripper roller e is omitted, doffer roller d is rotated in the opposite direction and the additional roller is arranged to co-operate with rollers b and d. In a further arrangement, Fig. 3, web c is removed from doffer d by a plain roller r rotating with a surface speed similar to that of the doffer roller p keeping the fibres loosely near the points of the doffer clothing; roller r may be replaced by a small card-clothed roller stripped by a plain surfaced roller.
