707,670. Ships' form; propelling ships; tugs. VOITH GES., J. M. Nov. 9, 1951 [Dec. 13, 1950], No. 26305/51. Classes 113(2) and 114 In a vessel having one or more vane wheel propellers 21 at the fore part of the ship, the bow 25 tapers forward from the propeller. The aft part below the flotation line is formed as a wedge with a flat bottom 24<SP>1</SP> and with almost perpendicular walls 28, 29, while above the flotation line it is spread out at 30 and 31 in a box-like manner. Flat plates 36 may be provided to disengage flow from the bottom 24<SP>1</SP> of the wedge-shaped aft part. When one blade wheel propeller is fitted to a tug the towing hook is positioned off centre so that the pull of the towing cable produces a moment opposite to the propeller torque. When two propellers are fitted they run in opposite directions so that the torques balance each other and in this case the towing hook 32 is arranged centrally. The propeller has a protective cage 34.
