Abstract

519,329. Ships' hulls and propellers. PESCOD, J. H., and McGILLIVRAY, J. B. Sept. 20, 1938, No. 27420. [Classes 113 (ii) and 114] The water at the stern is guided by plates or fins 1, 3 extending upwards and forwards from a low water line to a load line and diverging in breadth outwards in the same direction. The plates are riveted to the hull at the fore edge and supported at the rear, edge by round or plate stays 9; the space between plate and hull is closed at the ends by plates 10 and may be filled with concrete. The stays 9 may be replaced by a fore and aft stay plate closing the gap between the fin and hull. For a multiple screw vessel with shafts enclosed in a shell, a fin plate 15 is welded to the underside of the arm of the casting carrying the propeller etc.; the after part of this plate is horizontal and is supported by a plate also welded to the arm and inclined downwards at the after edge..Specification 338,103, [Class 113 (ii)], is referred to.
