Abstract

705,683. Force feed lubricating. DAIMLER CO., Ltd. Aug. 19, 1952 [May 19, 1951], No. 9123/51. Class 12(3) [Also in Group XXVII] In an engine suitable for vehicles, effective drysump lubrication irrespective of engine inclination is provided by front and rear platforms 1, 2 draining to a central sump 3 from which oil is transferred by a pump 7 to a tank 4 from which a pump 10 supplies the engine bearings and which is located beneath one platform which is apertured to allow gravitational flow of oil therethrough as via a pipe 6, when the corresponding engine end is depressed. As shown, the members 3, 4 are castings or pressings secured to a unitary casting or pressing forming the platforms 1, 2, but the platform 1 may be formed by a separate horizontal sheet metal casting or pressing slotted to allow the gravitational oil flow therethrough. The pumps 7, 10 are driven from a common shaft.
