697,175. Transmitting mechanical power. TROFIMOV, L. A. July 26, 1950, No. 18664/50. Class 38 (iv). [Also in Groups IX and XXXVII] A driving arrangement for a drum 25, receiving strip material 26 fed at constant speed from a device 27, which provides for automatic control of the winding tension, comprises differential gears 1, 2 driven by a motor 17 and each having one wheel (5 or 9) directly geared to the drum shaft 24 and another wheel (6 or 7) connected to a generator G or motor M, these two machines being connected in a closed loop containing series fields 31, 32 which may be shunted by rheostats 34, 35. The third element 3 of gear 1 is driven by motor 17. The third element 10 of gear 2 is either driven by motor 17, as shown, or constrained to run at constant speed by other means. The generator and motor are also provided with adjustable separately-excited fields 36, 37. To afford greater flexibility of the system, means may be provided for reversing the series field 31.
