Abstract

1,027,649. Change-speed gear. MONSANTO CO. July 16, 1963 [July 18, 1962], No. 28056/63. Heading F2D. [Also in Division D1] A device whereby the speed of a spinning- spindle can be changed from one value to another comprises a driving shaft 7 which can be coupled to the driven shaft 30 either directly for normal running, or indirectly for increased or decreased speed through a lay-shaft 34. Shafts 7, 30 have pulleys 37, 40 respectively connected by belts to pulleys on the lay-shaft, pulley 40 having an over-running clutch 39. The pulley 37 has a member 42 to which is slidably connected an armature 43. A rotor 44 is connected to shaft 30 and can be energized to attract the armature through a coil 45 controlled by a switch 32.
