693,427. Bolted joints. DOXFORD & SONS, Ltd., W., and PURDIE, W. H. April 24, 1950 [April 22, 1949], No. 10785/49. Class 83 (iv). [Also in Groups XXV, XXVI and XXVII] Reciprocating parts of an internal - combustion engine clamped together by bolts have the bolts surrounded by one or a pack of disc-springs compressed by tightening the nuts. As applied to securing the parts 20, 21 of a big-end bearing a pack of spring washers 26 is arranged with alternate edges in contact in a counterbore and compressed by nuts 24, acting through spherical washers 27, so that the washers become completely flattened. Washers may alternatively or additionally be placed under the bolt head. Application to the bolts connecting the yoke of'the upper piston, of opposed piston engines, to the cross-head is illustrated, and in this case the packs of washers are not fully flattened.
