690,204. Testing physical qualities of materials. STOCKTON, G. W., and SANKEY & SONS, Ltd., J. Aug. 14,1951 [June 5, 1951], No. 13249/51. Addition to 635,093. Class 106 (ii). [Also in Group XXXVI] In apparatus as described in the parent Specification the load applied to the specimen is determined by indicating the deflection of a part of the apparatus which takes the reactive load or pressure in opposition to the applied pressure and previously calibrating the deflection of this part under known loads. The upper platen electrode (not shown) is suspended from a transverse frame member 5 by means of a knife-edge support carried by a depending lug 13. This has a screwed shank 14 passing through a central hole in a portion 11 of the frame which forms the floor of a circular cavity 12 and is reduced in thickness to form a diaphragm. The lug 13 is secured by a nut 15 and is located in correct position by a dowel. A gauge 16 is secured to a bracket 17 so that the instrument plunger 18 is coaxial with an adjustable stop 19 screwed into the centre of the lug shank 14 so that any desired initial or zero setting can be made.
