Abstract
678,032. Ventilators. GREENWOOD'S & AIRVAC VENTILATING CO., Ltd., HUGHES, B. D., and FORD, E. L. March 14, 1951 [March 14, 1950], No. 6394/50. Class 137. An extractor ventilator for a roof consists of a base plate 1 having a central aperture 2 about which is formed a flange 3 having an outwardly flared upper edge 4. Spaced apart from flange 3 is an inwardly inclined outer wall 5. An inner depending wall 7 is spaced about midway between the flange 3 and the wall 5, a gap being left between plate 1 and the lower edge of plate 7, this lower edge being outwardly flared at 11 and also provided with an inwardly directed flange 12. The upper edge of the wall 7 is provided with a flange 8 upon which is secured a metal cover or glass pane 9 which may be mounted so that it can be hinged upwards. In operation, the flow A of outside air past the ventilator causes air to be drawn up through it, as shown in Fig. 9. Rain is prevented from entering the aperture 2 by the deflecting flanges 4, 11 and 12, any water collecting in the ventilator draining through holes 14. In a modification, Fig. 18 (not shown), the air flow through the ventilator is controlled by cord-operated, hinged flaps which close or open the gap between the flange 4 and the wall 7.
