Abstract

819,012. Ventilators. WORNE, S. Nov. 15, 1956 [Nov. 26, 1955], No. 33939/55. Class 137 An extraction unit for attachment to the roof, e.g. of a building, comprises a housing 10 having a converging passage through it and an axial fan 13 secured by brackets 11 therein for drawing air through the passage from the lower, wider end to the upper, narrow end over which a deflecting member in the form of a dished dome 16, is secured by brackets 17 to deflect the air expelled from the passage. The housing 10 has an integral flange 15 on its lower edge for attaching it to a roof. In a modification the underside of the dome 16 has a central projection to assist the extraction of air, four light-weight shutters being pivoted between four inclined support brackets for the dome in order to close the outlet from the passage, when the fan is switched off, but so as to be lifted in to a nested position beneath the dome, when the fan is switched on. The unit shown in Fig. 1 may be modified by the addition of shutters or by the inclusion of a central projection beneath the dome.
