675,401. Pressure gauges. BARNET INSTRUMENTS, Ltd. Nov. 13, 1950 [March 7, 1950], No. 5754/50. Class 106 (ii). A pressure gauge comprises a flexible diaphragm 4 acting on a pressure transmitting member 7 which actuates pressure indicating- means 2 and a blade spring 11 acting on the member 7 in opposition to the pressure and linearly adjustable to vary the effective length of the spring 11. The diaphragm is preferably constructed from sheet synthetic rubber and is clamped between parts 5, 6 conveniently formed by die casting, with the intervention of a sealing washer, while the centre part of the diaphragm is subjected to gaseous or other fluid pressure through a coupling 3 and exerts a pressure on the transmitting member 7, which is in the form of a circular section rod and moves axially in a corresponding bore in the part 6 and, by rack 8 and pinion 9, actuates a pointer 2. The upper end of the rod 7 is of part spherical shape and engages the blade spring 11 which is carried by a block 12 adjustable on a bracket 14 by a micrometer screw 13 to vary the effective length of the spring 11. A spring of appropriate thickness is inserted and adjusted and a suitable calibrated dial is fitted in a casing 1 for the gauge according to the pressure range for which the gauge is being assembled. Most of the components may be produced on repetition lathes. The diaphragm is approximately ten thousandths of an inch thick.
