Abstract

673,028. Smallarms. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE-GES. Dec. 23, 1949. [Dec. 23, 1948] No. 33025/49. Class 119. Automatic smallarms of the short-recoil type have the barrel moved laterally to unlock it from the breech block by engagement means, such as a pin and slot, designed to give initial axial sliding movement of the barrel before the unlocking movement occurs. In the form shown, the forwardly-extending breech block 1 is locked to the barrel 7 by interengaging teeth 12, the breech block being slidable in axial guides on the fixed casing or hand-grip 2, and the barrel being guided and actuated for unlocking by a fixed pin 10 engaging a shaped slot 9 on the barrel. During short recoil, the straight part of the slot ensures axial sliding movement of the barrel until the bullet has left the barrel, after which the cam-shaped end of the slot lowers the barrel to the unlocked position. The breech block then moves rearwardly alone against the action of the return spring 11 to permit of loading a cartridge P from a box magazine 16. On breech closure, the returning breech block feeds a cartridge forwardly from the magazine, the bullet engaging a guide 14 on the barrel to guide the cartridge into the gun chamber. The barrel is then pushed forwardly and upwardly to lock with the breech closure in firing position. In a modification, the pin 10 is fixed to the barrel and engages a shaped slot in the fixed casing.
